I don’t know what to make of Palin’s resignation, except that my overall gut feeling is that dirty, as dirty as the political arena she’s always ranting against. Her decision to resign right before the Fourth of July weekend, a holiday when Americans should be celebrating their love for their country, and to go off to cheerfully celebrate it with her family, with naught a care in the world, irks me. Yes, she was under an ethics investigation, her family subjected to publicity, etc., but to quit her term prematurely is rather conniving and sneaky – the complete opposite all of her ‘folksy’ speeches were all about. Not only that, but I also believe that Palin /did/ want publicity for her family, only, she didn’t like the fact that it was negative publicity. Along with that, she called the ethics investigation on her a waste of time and money, which I do, in part, agree. However, it is not a waste of time or money entirely, because her constituents have a right to know whether or not the governor was abusing her power, and she did promise, in the beginning of her term, that she would have an open office/term. To me, this resignation stinks. It’s not an honorable, self-sacrifice for the Alaskans; it’s a way to get away from the mess that she made and to jump into the spotlight as a celebrity, where Palin can soak up lots of attention and spout meaningless drivel, and not have to do /real/ work for her former constituents, whom she has betrayed.
