Normally, April 15—the deadline for U.S. taxes—is no time to for a party. But this year, thousands of people across the country held “tea party” rallies to protest the exorbitant spending President Obama and his administration have been advocating since they entered the office. The parties, inspired by the notorious Boston Tea Party of 1773, were “hosted” by FreedomWorks, a conservative, nonprofit advocacy group that used forums like Facebook and Twitter to garner supporters.
I think that this is a great idea and am upset I was not available to attend one of these parties. Obama needs to understand that not all of us see him as the savior of our country. Though I did not vote for him, I wanted to keep an open mind when he won. However, so far I think he has only made things significantly worse by increasing our debt by an incredible amount. When he was elected for “change,” he should have known we meant for better and not for worse. What we need right now is a strong Republican showing to take back control in Washington D.C. and restore order rather than the circus Obama has created with his terrible legislation and obsession with media attention. Who cares what kind of dog he has when the economy is in grave danger? We, just like those in 1773 before us, need to take back our control over what is rightfully ours (such as our hard-earned money!) and showings of our strength like these tea parties are a great start.
