On May 23rd, 2009, Former President of South Korea, Roh Moo-Hyun commited suicide. According to the state-run Yonhap news agency, he went hiking near his home and jumped off the cliff. He was found later and was taken to the hospital but head injuries were too bad. Finally, he passed away at 9:30 am.
The primary reason for his death is an investigation of his bribery scandel. Prosecutors were investigating Roh Moo-Hyun for receiving about 6 million in bribes from South Koream businessman while he was serving as the president. It seemed that Roh was ashamed of his scandel and thought that it demolished his reputation. In his suicide note, he mentioned that he was disappointing all the citizens and his supporters. The note reads, “Too many people have suffered because of me. And I cannot imagine the suffering they will go through in the future” (CNN.com)
Prosecutors currently suspended the investigation after Roh’s death.
This is one of the most tragic events that South Korea ever had. He was the most “democratic” president in South Korea and he dedicated his life to people in South Korea. It’s very sad that South Korea lost the greatest president in history of Korea.

May you rest in peace, president Roh Moo-Hyun.
